I'm still recovering from New Years...
All that celebrating...
And 2011 has rolled into town so FAST!
I admit I have still not bought my new week-at-a-glance journal.
I'm in denial...ahem
I'm trying to get a grip on the new year, but it feels rather tenuous like this high wire act.
These adorable miniature tableaux are from a tiny shop on a side street in the 6th arrondissement...
I was passing by with M. after an Italian dinner and a date with George Clooney at the cinema...
You know how it is...
I was lucky to get these shots to show you.
I am wondering if Balenciaga passed by too at one time...
Balenciaga and Spain And was inspired to create his bolero jackets by the above mini tableau. You never know...
I don't seem to have ever painted these little figurines...
Though I certainly have painted many miniature petite dejeuners...
And lots of small wind-up birdies...
Next trip I will stop in and see what I can paint here if I can find it again $#@!
While we're on the circus theme and while the weather is still beastly out, there's nothing like curling up with a good book and a nice hot bowl of butternut squash soup. I recently discovered Water For Elephants and loved every thrilling page of it. Who never dreamt of running off to join the circus raise your hand? It's set during the Great Depression, so full of details that one can relate to a bit today non?
Another 'circus' book, believe it or not, is this tale of the great couture designers, YSL and Karl Lagerfeld in The Beautiful Fall. Also full of thrilling details of the Paris 3-ring fashion circus in the wild 70's. What a naughty boy was Yves! And didn't he make his staff and everyone else jump through hoops! A must read if you Love Paris and Fashion.
BONJOUR PARIS MINIATURES!

Boxed in...

One Laduree box, original watercolor,sold 5" x 7"

Have you been feeling "Boxed in" by the cold weather?
Two Laduree boxes, original watercolor, sold 5" x 7"

Well I have...

It is blankety-blank&*%$ COLD here!!!!

Like 18 degrees + the dastardly wind chill factor?
In my little 10' x 12' Boxy studio, it's fairly toasty...
But if I go out of the room,
it FEELS LIKE ALL THE WINDOWS ARE WIDE OPEN!!!!
FREEZING COLD!
My Friend in San Francisco, Annie, says all her windows ARE wide open!
It's like 80 degrees there!
What?
Oh and don't you know we got SNOW today!
Another reason to stay inside my little Box...ahem

Speaking of Boxes...since the apartment was painted, you know how you get these urges to throw out a ton of stuff? Well the thousand or so Boxes of miniatures...quite a few Boxes have landed on the street, making some finder very happy I hope...
Bye bye little Boxes!
Course I did keep a few...
Oh and yesterday I finally ventured out of my box to mail a bunch of watercolors
(THANK YOU PB readers!!) at the post office.
Don't you know I left them home sitting on my chair!?
Naturally I only realized while on the subway that my bag was rather light.
Quelle bird brain :(

Here's a couple of chocolate Parisien Boxes I wouldn't mind getting delivered..
HOW COLD IS IT WHERE YOU LIVE?

BON CLIMAT!

#176B Laduree Macarons for Sophia, original watercolor,9" x 11"
Sometimes I get funny requests from PB readers...
Like the time a CEO from Mumbai wanted to special order macarons for his boss' private jet..in fact I get a lot of potential orders for macarons. If only I could bake!
Yesterday Sophia sent me these pictures!
OMG! LOOK!
Here's what she has to say:

"I am very pleased with the way it turned out and would be delighted for you to do a post. I was even thinking of sending some photos to Laduree just for grins.
I love Laduree-Rue Royale. It's always one of our first stops in Paris, but now Laduree-Bonaparte is closer (we stay at the Lutetia). I am making a very, very big dollhouse and was searching for French minis for it one day on the web. I found the facade on the website of La Boite a Joujoux, which is one of the miniatures shops in the Passage Jouffroy that I had bought from previously.
...for quite a long time and enfin... ...I took it back to my apartment for a mini photo shoot and to see if the scale was right for me to paint.

The picture on the back wall is the ceiling of Laduree Bonaparte that I manipulated on the computer and then glazed with stained glass medium to add the brush strokes. The chef doll is by Marcia Blackstrom."

At 20 EUROS (!!!) (ouch ouch ouch!) I decided it was just too tiny to go with other pastries and returned it the next day with no regrets. I figured out how to make my own Laduree boxes happily :) Et voila! The REAL thing in all it's glory...sigh Somehow this line doesn't look so annoying does it?
Who of us would not jump to get on this line for a 10-15 minutes wait right now?
BIG MERCI Sophia for sharing your Laduree dreams with us!
BONNE JOURNEE!
YES! I LOVE the little Laduree box on the counter. So much so, that I flirted intensely with it at the mini boutique on Ile St.Louis...The floor tiles come from the UK, the furniture is Bespaq, the pastries are by Lesley Burgess of The English Kitchen and Betty Sartorio, a French miniaturist (don't you love the macarons on the table and the little box on the counter?). I knew as soon as I saw it that it was perfect for a patisserie, so I bought it and had the box custom-made to fit. It made sense to make it a tribute to Laduree, and to paint it to look like a macaron box (I intend to stencil the swag on the sides some day). When Sophia T. contacted me to help her out with a "swag" from Laduree's boxes to decorate the walls of her miniature tableau, I'm afraid I was not much help...

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !
YEP! I figured out how to make wee little Laduree boxes!
And without out-sourcing to India or China too!
When I showed my Quelle Wrecked studio you got all dreamy about the pile of Laduree boxes and you planted a thought in my head...
Maybe I could figure out how to make these...
I thought and I thought and I figured it out!

YAY!
It's true that my boxes are "bottomless" dare I say it...Ahem
Sorry Laduree. I have to go back to Boxology class and resolve this one bit of technology.
Can you tell which one is the REAL Laduree box? ? ?
You know how I love to show comparative analysis.
We're very scientific here at PB, always doing research...endless research for your benefit bien sur!
Here's a PAUL Boulangerie sugar cube for size comparison.
Yellow Bird loves the new mini Ladurees.
They are just his size!
More sizes and colors are coming. STAY TUNED!
When I requested a THIRD order of the Pierre Herme miniature macarons from Priscilla of NRFBQueen, she asked me, what is it with these MACAROONS!?
Oh Priscilla, how can I begin to tell you :)
For your edification Priscilla VOILA! :
BY SPECIAL REQUEST...
'Photo Shoot in Paris'

How To Make Macarons at Lenotre
Macaron a la JACQUEMART-ANDRE...

New Piu Piu #123 You only had to wait 24 hours for the "surprise". I had to wait 2 weeks...
For the:
NEW - WONDERFUL MAISON PIERRE HERME DESSERTS MINI COLLECTION!
I spotted on Flickr a wonderful photo by ICY NERD of these sweet little dollhouse Pierre Herme desserts and of course I HAD TO HAVE THEM!
I went madly searching all over the web and ended up in Hong Kong! The new set is made by MegaHouse in Japan...
#121 Yellow Bird inspects PH chocolatesI couldn't really be sure what size the miniatures were?
Would they go with my dollhouse tea set?
Hmmmm...
After careful comparative analysis I have to admit that NO, they are much smaller than my dollhouse tea set. This "real" package of Pierre Herme hot chocolate powder is
4 1/4" tall versus the miniature is just 3/4" high...
Oh well..on verra bien as the French say. It will all turn out well hopefully...
This is Pierre Herme's Fall catalogue.
Sized 5 3/4" wide by 8 1/4" tall...

The tiny life-like PH sac is 2" x 2"
You get the picture?
Christine Ferbier mini-confiture LOOK!
Even one teeny, tiny jar of Christine Ferbier jam made for Pierre Herme is included. You tell me what the flavour is. My magnifying glass isn't strong enough.
I think I need a microscope here!
Maison Pierre Herme Desserts Mini Collection You can order your set of 8 boxes of heavenly Maison Pierre Herme Desserts Mini Collection from Angolz.com in Hong Kong and you'll get it in about a week! Plus Pierre Herme is having a contest/lottery for 8 free sets if you sign on before January 18!
At least all the desserts fit nicely on my dollhouse silver tray...
Look at it this way - What better way to curb your appetite after the Holiday excess with these non-caloric miniatures?
