WOWZA!
The drama was mind-blowing.
The best words are McQueen's own quotes on the walls throughout.“There is no way back for me now. I am going to take you on journeys you’ve never dreamed were possible.”

Costume Institute curator Anthony Boltan, reminded us of McQueen's favorite Shakespeare quote from Midsummer's Night Dream,

McQueen (of Scottish descent) created a 'Rape of Scotland' collection to express his political anger at England and often showed up at events in tartan kilts...
There are McQueen tartan items in the gift shop and you don't have to be Scottish to buy them...
Stella McCartney studied with McQueen at St. Martins, on Savile Row and when they arrived together in Paris early days, Lee said,

"It was an...unmissable formula...McQueen's message throughout was essentially sunk into the short dress—a steady development of his engineered sea-reptile prints, worked into a nipped-waist, belled-skirt silhouette. The colors—first green and brown, moving to aqua and blue—were exceptionally executed and swagged, and molded across panniered structures. Each dress was a work of computer-generated art crossbred with McQueen's couture-based signature cut." The Guardian
The catalog, Savage Beauty is just as sumptuous as the exhibit.

I'm still recovering from New Years...
All that celebrating...
And 2011 has rolled into town so FAST!
I admit I have still not bought my new week-at-a-glance journal.I'm in denial...ahem
I'm trying to get a grip on the new year, but it feels rather tenuous like this high wire act.
These adorable miniature tableaux are from a tiny shop on a side street in the 6th arrondissement...
I was passing by with M. after an Italian dinner and a date with George Clooney at the cinema...
You know how it is...

I am wondering if Balenciaga passed by too at one time...
And was inspired to create his bolero jackets by the above mini tableau. You never know...
I don't seem to have ever painted these little figurines...
Though I certainly have painted many miniature petite dejeuners...
And lots of small wind-up birdies...
Next trip I will stop in and see what I can paint here if I can find it again $#@!
While we're on the circus theme and while the weather is still beastly out, there's nothing like curling up with a good book and a nice hot bowl of butternut squash soup. I recently discovered Water For Elephants and loved every thrilling page of it. Who never dreamt of running off to join the circus raise your hand? It's set during the Great Depression, so full of details that one can relate to a bit today non?
Another 'circus' book, believe it or not, is this tale of the great couture designers, YSL and Karl Lagerfeld in The Beautiful Fall. Also full of thrilling details of the Paris 3-ring fashion circus in the wild 70's. What a naughty boy was Yves! And didn't he make his staff and everyone else jump through hoops! A must read if you Love Paris and Fashion.

Dessert first!I made it to Sonia Rykiel's show!

But to get there - a lot of waiting in the frigid cold. Paris cold is like no other. It says 21 degrees/feels like 18. It should say feels like minus 18. The Seine wind chill blows right through you.

We both scurry to grab a pic of barely dressed all-in-blue Lilly Allen
Inside I squeeze onto the Photog's podium. I have no actual ticket or seat # but I'd rather stand here than sit in the gigantic stadium of the Halle Freyssinet...
