The posh 16th arrondissement is loaded with posh patisseries...
And I've barely set foot in them.
This is pretty tragique - I must make up for this lapse next trip ...
I just happened to walze by Yamazaki Paris enroute to the Musee Marmottan last October on 6 Chaussée Muette 75016 Metro: La Muette
As usual I ran in, stole some shots and ran out safely without tasting a thing. 
Unlike the trecherous Financier Pastries now lining the shelves of my refrigerator. We won't discuss my hips...ahem 
I have much more resistance when in Paris - there's such a wealth of choices. 
You know on the next block or so you'll find something almost as irresistable. Pastry procrastination is easy in Paris. 
New York is not so full of temptation... 
C'est la vie...
I do promise to go inside and EAT something next time!BONJOUR Yamazaki Paris!

A week ago I went to hear Jamie Cat Callan talk about her newest book on finding your inner 'Frenchiness'...
'Bonjour Happiness'
Jamie was recently injured in her car (by a possibly texting driver) but she reminded us, "You can still have joi de vie whilst hobbling around in a leg cast". Jamie is nothing if not an optimist.
The French have recently adopted the cheesecake as a favorite dessert...
But they've always had the best 'cheesecake' of all - matching lingerie. Jamie says"your lingerie MUST match and be frilly' or just furgettaboutit if you wanna find your inner French girl.
Jamie proceeded to do 'French' scarf demo for us...
Luckily there was a REAL French girl present to concur with Jamies' scarf instructions. Jamie says,"DO NOT ever wear your scarf the way the sales guy in the street shows you" Non JAMAIS! Wrong, wrong, wrong. French Girl agreed this is not correct.
Jamie says, "French people do not have an expression for 'the pursuit of happiness'." They do not chase after it. Rather they take things slowly. Jamie says, "You must cultivate your own 'secret garden'. That place where you can refresh your senses and recoup. Jamie says, "Learn the French shrug when presented with a difficult situation. Simply shrug your shoulders casually and say, "C'est la vie." 
Bien sur there were macarons on hand (merci Mad Mac).I had to ask Jamie what she thought of French men, since the DSK episode had just occured. Jamie said, "That's in the next book."
I shrugged and said, "C'est la vie..."

Lady bugs/ coccinelle are lucky in France... 
I hope they're lucky in New York... 
Because Park Avenue is littered with them starting at 57th street... 
As well as giant pink roses for Spring...

Macy's Flowers Show is blooming with REAL flowers. 
In Lalique's Madison Avenue windows the flowers are glass of course... 
Jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels has flowers growing out of it's windows but the diamonds are kept safely behind the glass - quelle dommage... 
Be sure to water your neckties! 
Or why not sit down on a flower chair and eat off flower plates? 
A floral purse... 
To go with your Bergdorf's red flowered dress. 
Or better yet, wear a pink rose at the neck with a dress of macarons from Macaron Cafe on 59th street. 
They even put pistachio chips or bits along the outside! 
These birdies were hankering after my macaron pistache, with or without the chips...BONJOUR BLOOMING NEW YORK!

Nor did I find French style macarons...well not exactly. 
You'd think I'd be content with all the Tiramisu floating around Venice but my tastebuds are not creamy-inclined... 
These giant hazelnut-smothered cookies looked lethal to me, perhaps even weapon-like..? 
A massive meringue cake filled with vanilla cream with more cream on the side to drap over it - no way! 
In a pinch, one could settle for the ropes and ropes of liquirizia/liqurice lining the calle/streets of Venice... 
In desperation, I bought a Venetian guidebook to help me find local pastries - there are at least 22 listed: balcoli, bussolai ciosotri, castagnole, colombina, crema frita, curasan etc., etc. 
Rosa Salva is one of Venice's oldest, most revered pasticcerias in sestiere San Marco, 951, Calle Fiubera. It's a cafe as well so you can stop in for a coffee with your cantucci... 
But I was not tempted... 
At last I broke down and gobbled an unpronouncable sfogliatelle - a Naples specialty. Maybe I sucumbed because these are in my neighborhood in Astoria? And maybe because these are crispy?
Look! Little Nutella tartelettes. What's wrong with these you ask? Are you saying to yourselves, "picky...picky?"
All from pasticceria Toletta in sestiere Dorsodura, 1192, calle della Toletta, mentioned in the guide...
As a so-called Paris pastry (painter)expert have I been ruined for the treats of the rest of the planet? I think I have.
I do love Italian Macedonia de fruita (basically an improved version of our 'fruitcup').
And there's ALWAYS gelato for dessert. No wonder I was reduced to going on The Gelato Dieta in Venice.
And there ARE plenty of dogs in Venice (more to come on them). So what's YOUR favorite Venetian dessert? Do tell all PBers!!

By then I'd given up hope and missed out tasting them. They're cleverly sitting in little caissette plissee/paper cups and the cream filling inside is decoratively squiggled. At least I got this photo in passing... I'll just have to return to Venice to taste them. c'est la vie.
