L'Amour Fou de Petits Fours, watercolor, 9" x 11"
Still crazy for petits fours, I thought I'd try out the competition for the sake of variete. Mais quelle disastre! When I opened the box they were all slip slidin' away.
Staff grabbed the box, ran into the kitchen and tried to patch them back together. Unacceptable IMHO :(
Where are the little protective caissettes plissées that go under each petit four bien sur?
Mon dieu! I was mad. I was growling like these amazing not-to-be-missed animal sculptures of Ai Weiwei by The Plaza Hotel.
C'est la vie. I picked myself up off the ground and returned to Financier Pastries for a second set of petits fours.
A pastry artiste has to have something to paint. These are perfection. 
As a consolation prize I got a passion fruit macaron = instant happiness. When life gives you lemons eat macarons.
With all this mad, crazy love for petits fours eating me up, seeing L'Amour Fou/crazy love was a natural... 
L'Amour Fou is a French documentary about the relationship of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge, their amazing art collection and Berge's decision to auction it off in 2009 in a 3-day extravaganza. Read more about it in Elaine Sciolino's story here. 
The film offers an inside look at their lives together and the relentless luxury of their lifestyle. 
Yesterday Yellow Bird dragged me down to the Stone Street Financier branch for more pastry luxuries. Who does he think he is - YSL?BONJOUR L'AMOUR FOU de PETITS FOURS!

In this stunning pre-fall collection, Pilati was inspired by Yves Saint Laurent's "Opium Era"... keeping the silhouette lean and monochromatic,... sweeping palazzo pants, glittering bows, chiffon, halternecks and a marabou cape.

I'm still recovering from New Years...
All that celebrating...
And 2011 has rolled into town so FAST!
I admit I have still not bought my new week-at-a-glance journal.I'm in denial...ahem
I'm trying to get a grip on the new year, but it feels rather tenuous like this high wire act.
These adorable miniature tableaux are from a tiny shop on a side street in the 6th arrondissement...
I was passing by with M. after an Italian dinner and a date with George Clooney at the cinema...

I am wondering if Balenciaga passed by too at one time...
And was inspired to create his bolero jackets by the above mini tableau. You never know...
I don't seem to have ever painted these little figurines...
Though I certainly have painted many miniature petite dejeuners...
And lots of small wind-up birdies...
Next trip I will stop in and see what I can paint here if I can find it again $#@!
While we're on the circus theme and while the weather is still beastly out, there's nothing like curling up with a good book and a nice hot bowl of butternut squash soup. I recently discovered Water For Elephants and loved every thrilling page of it. Who never dreamt of running off to join the circus raise your hand? It's set during the Great Depression, so full of details that one can relate to a bit today non?
Another 'circus' book, believe it or not, is this tale of the great couture designers, YSL and Karl Lagerfeld in The Beautiful Fall. Also full of thrilling details of the Paris 3-ring fashion circus in the wild 70's. What a naughty boy was Yves! And didn't he make his staff and everyone else jump through hoops! A must read if you Love Paris and Fashion.

Stalking bottes/boots in Paris requires some work...
Hanging out in le Grand Epicerie is an awfully good way...
To catch up...
On what boots THEY are wearing...
Another option is go to a hot exhibit like Basquiat at the musee d'Art Moderne de la ville de Paris...
Get on the very long line and just watch the latest Paris boots walze by...
Sometimes the boots get fed up with standing on line and sit down to wait. I got fed up waiting after an hour, but I saw a lot of fashion...
A bit of leche-vitrine/window shopping is required for trend following...
The riding style boots, L'Aigle are very hot now in Paris...
Carrying around their signature bag is de rigeur...
'Uggish' boots have made a comeback - these in Sonia's vitrine...
Added multi-straps update them...
One could get away with wearing one's old Uggs I suppose...
But when Galerie Lafayettes has a special promotion of Uggs + Jimmy Choo...
Offering jazzed up versions...
Who can resist?
A careful inspection is essential...
The prix - 740 euros, could help one curb ones impulsivity I suppose...hmmm
One does wonder how French Girls...
Eat all these divine desserts and yet fit into the skin-tight boots seen dans la rue...
True some Frenchies are quite busy working off those tartes...
I alone, was not wearing boots in Paris, but your friendly stalker-in-the-street must think of comfort 1st and be able to stalk another day...BONJOUR PARIS BOOTS!
