Birds of Paris, birds of London, birds of New York and possibly India(?) are raising a ruckus right now in my studio, though I can't think why? The AC is on high and no one is going hungry... Birds in London are upside down in the Underground at South Kensington station. Don't ask me why. I had nothing to do with it. Olha took me along to the Royal Academy Summer show and we started bird watching - there were many onsite. That started it.
Everafter I saw birds everywhere and wanting to bring them home, like this appropriately named plaster of Paris number on sale at Comptoir de Famille.
No way was I bringing home these French homing pidgeons or love birds or doves or whatever the hell they were...On the other hand this silver charmer at the same restaurant was begging to be set free. Sadly he/she would have been missed if I'd rescued him/her for future portraits...
A Frenchie humming bird spotted in Paris minus binoculars - I didn't see many real birds at all in Paris come to think of it. have you?
I did buy the matching cup and saucer to this lovebird teapot, but I left it behind at French Girls'.

This metal bird was just the right size and shape, but he/she was firmly attached to a metal tray. No amount of twisting was going to change that...

I loved everything in the toy exhibit at the Musee Arts Decoratif. I cannot reccommend this exhibit enough - you'll have a ball. And if you should see a burley museum assistant carrying a very large blown-up bear, please tell him I regret not taking his picture in the stairwell. ALWAYS have your camera ready! Lesson learned.
Voila! Thumbnails for the day of M. Rusty formerly of Petersham Nurseries but of French origins.
M. Rusty takes a bird bath, watercolor, 9" x 11"
Tea in the afternoon in London, watercolor, 9" x 11"
Well it appears the newest bird on the block, Mistress Henny (an American breed) has taken charge and is now top bird of the flock. The others are acquiescent and have settled down after just a few peeps of annoyance...
BONJOUR WEEK-END!

I noticed silhouettes in many vitrines like these in Laduree...
Some are just flat cutouts like this swan...
Or multi-colored as this bike shop...
Posters have caught the silhouette tendance...
And Paris graffiti is often in silhouette...
Highly animated silhouettes in Camper's windows...
Bird silhouettes at Annik Goutal...
Not a pure silhouette but a giant iconic baguette cutout....
Paris dog silhouettes on Ile St-Louis...
The silhouettist at Notre Dame-it's contagous, these silhouettes
A contemporary photographer uses an old concept for his carte de visite...
Paris' best loved silhouette...
Paris l'heure bleu is full of silhouettes-no sissors necessary...
BONJOUR SILHOUETTES!!!

Baroque bluebird, watercolor on Etsy, sold 5" x 7"
Since I've started blogging almost 3 years ago all sorts of new obsessions have developed.... birds,
One of them is since they're so much fun to draw...
Rococo bird, watercolor on Etsy,sold 5" x 7"

Plus they make the perfect companion to macarons...
birds everywhere
And you do see , like on these plates at ANTHROPOLOGIE...
This Chrismas ostrich decorating Bendels is not a good example really.... But this diamond-adorned Peacock at Harry Winstons certainly is. I went to the Met research library to look at Rococo drawings and found this bird caricature of a printseller by Jean-Charles Delafosse...
My doodle...
I keep finding myself buying bird-related items like these Victorian die cuts

on Etsy from The Seasonal Cottage.

This bird-adorned Marie-Antoinette desk calendar from Digital Paperie occasionally lets out a chirp...

I found this vintage birdguide on Etsy too...

And promptly lost it amidst the apartment painting.
I'm hoping it will let out some chirps so I can find it again....
Last year's bird aquisitions are still in residence, very busily chirping away...

As for real birds, I bought myself a present =
A big bag of birdseed to feed the sparrows on my way to the pool.
So far they are not yet greeting me with open wings.
Hopefully by springtime...

Camondo oiseau,watercolor on Etsy,9" x 11"
First day out in Paris at Musee Nissim de Camondo I ran smack in to a flock of birds that followed my adventures all through Paris...
No ornithologist I, so can you name the birds here at Camondo?
Another bird that looks so familiar...Hmmmm
More lovely birds whilst in the Versailles gift shop.
At the tail end of my trip, a visit to the magnificent and often overlooked Musee de Sevres - just a short trip on ligne #9 to the end and then a quick walk over the bridge - et voila - a fantastic historic collection of china from everywhere and all time periods.
At Sevres this plate commemorating American bird species -the crow?
Birds as decorative elements stalked me. Here on a tapestry chair at...?
Ah at musee Nissim de Camondo and it was a folding screen not a chair!
These lovebirds were busy cooing at Versailles on another screen...
I went to Rick's place again and spotted this old alphabet bird postcard lying around...
Just a bit of old embroidered tapestry at the Bastille brocante. Note a bird is present amidst the flowers and bunnies...
Tons of birds symmetrically arranged on the fabrics at the Musee de la Toile de Jouy. I guess birds add a touch of life to these static repetitive designs..qui sait?
Here at Chateau Chantilly , a Roman mosaic of lowly pigeons!
Much more life like than just purely decorative, these unidentifiable everyday birds in the elegant chambers of La Grande Singerie at Chantilly..
Passing by on rue de St. Peres - a great street for window gazing into very fine antique shops - these amusing birds perched on top of a gazebo in a print by Antoine Watteau...
Oddly you do not see many birds and pastry together. Except here at Gerard Mulot's grand piece montee... These birds look like they escaped from a hat to me...
BON JEUDI!
