Berries by Fantin- Latour

The French have always been mad for their fraises/strawberries...
I can't remember all the species they have (fraise de bois, gariguette, charlotte, mara des bois, ciflorette, etc.), but try to buy a box from Espana at Monoprix and you'll get a slap. Buy local bien sur!
Is there a pastry chef in Paris who dips his brush into the strawberry patch more than...
Gerard Mulot?

I think not.

Name a contender and we can duke it out.

Really it's no wonder Gerard Mulot won hands down this month's Le Figaro contest for the BEST Strawberry tarte in all of Paris.

Who does not want to be in this taste testers shoes I ask you?

Photo courtesey of Le Figaro

Are you drooling yet?

There is NOTHING in my fridge that even hints of strawberries

I cannot even claim to have tasted Mulot's winning tartelette though I have taken a gazillion photos both inside his patisserie and outside...

I can claim to having eaten these horrors -faux fraise tagada, marshmellowy affairs - not really something you want to shout out about...ahem

Well here's the list of winners in order. Guess who will be using this as her guide next trip to Paris?

At least I photographed runner-up Carette's tarte - another non-accomplishment...

Meanwhile Little Bear is running his own tasting contest, if he could only decide which fourchette to use! Do pop into Le Figaro and drive youself nuts watching the video. Then run out and find something FRAISE for Gawd's sakes. That's what I'm going to do RIGHT NOW!

FELICITATIONS GERARD MULOT!!

TA-DA!
Look!
Yesterday the ballerinas were out in Paris.
And shortie striped skirts.
Why not combine both with striped ballerinas..?
Whilst eating some red berries...
I got berrie thing at Gerard Mulot to paint...
But I ate it :)
I wanted to buy anemonies from my favorite fleuriste
On rue Vavin, but I'm off to VENICE TODAY!
The trees were busting into bloom in the Luxembourg jardins...
People were even wearing sunglasses!
Why not take a gardening class or arrange flowers at the gardens..?
Why not write a letter in Spring green ink?
Or wear a floral hat...
From hat shop Marie Mercie...
Why not tie a pink bow around your waist like at Eric Bompard..?
Even if you have no waist at all yet, wear a red bow for SPRING!!
The Easter chocolate chickens are wearing them...
Everyone was out in the Paris cafes...
Even the Eiffel Tower poked it's head out from the clouds yesterday.
I decided to try my luck and get the best waffle in Paris yesterday...
Well Le Figaro says L'Avant Comptoir has the best so it must be so. When I tried on Sunday I waited on line 45 minutes. Then at the take-away window they said it would be another 10 minutes! Well they only have ONE waffle/gaufre maker! I gave up and went away. But yesterday with Spring finally arriving with a blast I hit lucky and didn't have to wait at all.
YES it was well worth coming back for.
*NEWS ALERT:
I AM NOT TAKING MY COMPUTER.
But perhaps I'll post on PB at a cyber cafe...qui sait?
I'm taking a petite vacance. Please excuse dearest PBers.
I'll be back onboard the 30th of March.
Patience et courage...ahem
BONJOUR SPRING!

It's been a year since we visited the ultra chic 'OFG' /older French Girl, so brought back by popular request - voila! Note the stance and splash of lovely yellow-orange scarf...
Note the even lovelier ruffle!
Tres flirtie non?
Bright bleu punctuates a neutral pantsuit at patissiere Gerard Mulot...
A touch of turquoise on this OFG Parisien biker...
OFG bikers abound in Paris...
As do the racing grand-meres pushing two little ones no less...
Regarding the OFG's hair - it can go natural gris...
LONG hair is the norm for many OFG...
VERY LONG hair is A-OK.
WOW!
Ride the Paris bus to catch the OFG - it's the much more civilized, scenic way to get around...
OFGs browse apartment ads just like the rest of us - one must keep up on real estate values in Paris too...
And of course they walk their petit Parisien doggies!
My favorite OFG is my ever-youthful second-cousine, Kristine in Pigalle. Her charmes are endless.
BONJOUR THE OFG!
