Like the Birkin bag and Chanel suit, there is no denying that the omnipresent trench coat is one of those must have fashion staples in your closet that can up the glam quotient of your look.
Audrey looking très chic!
Created in 1901, Thomas Burberry proposed the trench coat as the official garment for British Army officers. The trench was given it's name as it was primarily worn by soldiers fighting in the trenches. Eventually, the trench coat made its way into the uniforms of enlisted soldiers in the UK and America during the Second World War.

Following the war, the trench coat became popular partly due to it's appearance in classic Hollywood films ~ Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's and Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca.
