" You're terribly late you know...Naughty!" said The Mad Hatter. And I was late for Tim Burton's MOMA show - next to last day!
"There aren't any", they said,"Too current."
"Oh..."but I did find this wonderful Tim Burton doodle on a scrap of newsprint.
I planned to stay an hour, take a quick snooze...
J'adore Alice! Mia Wasikowska is perfect.
She has a lovely luminosity and an inner something or other that grabs you and does not let go. When the Mad Hatter tells Alice,
"You're not the same as you were before.
You were much more..."muchier"
You've lost your "muchness"
You find yourself rooting for Alice to find her muchness...
Like Jeanne d'Arc, she slays the dragon and comes out so much stronger.
Girls rule!
While your beau naps, you can scurry around...
Heavens, just buy the whole table intact and you're set!Alice: Well, I haven't had any yet, so I can't very well take more.
March Hare: Ah, you mean you can't very well take less.
Mad Hatter: Yes. You can always take more than nothing.
You could wait on the endless lines around the corner at the new Magnolia Bakeries springing up...
Better yet, get your paws on David Lebovitz' utterly delicious new cookbook, Ready For Dessert. You'll be drooling over every picture by superb photographer, Maren Caruso. Even an idiot non-baker like me can make these recipes the way David has set them up. David lives in Paris, so there are quite a few French desserts. That's what pinneys are for are they not?
You're invited to attend the tea party at Rizzoli's bookstore this Sunday, May 2 on West 57th street.
With scones for all, kids included, to commemorate the birthday of the real-life Alice and celebrate The Real Alice in Wonderland book.

Di, this post if for you!
Repetto has been around since 1947...Frankly Di, you should have found it by now, non?!
Where in the world can you find so many plain vanilla black ballerinas I ask you? Di, I don't like to think where you've been buying your ballerinas. Perish the thought.
*Note there is another shooter on the premises making movies no less.
They're very smart at Repetto. They understand our obsession with their adorable shoes and are quite permissive with us.
In fact, they cleverly play with all of our old dreams of becoming a ballerina. They grab a hold of our 5-year old brain and clasp it to their bosom, playing into all our deepest fantasies. Here you can pretend you are a prima ballerina and sit yourself down on a red velvet banquette... *Note the velvet ropes on the left
Dance, ballerina dance!
And then pick out your toe shoes.Ahhh, but that it were possible - size 6 svp...
More ballerina fantasies to feed on.*Note how French Girls wear those bows in their hair -Alice Je T'aime. These are not 7-year olds either - they're grownups!?
The fabled tutus are displayed where they can not be missed.Oui, I'll have the white one on the left svp -
Yeah I'm in Swan Lake ya know...
More "ballerina" outfits you can twirl around in at home, chez vous...Repetto, you understand so well our deepest desires.
Merci, merci mille fois...
Merci Repetto...
Ballerines = Macarons
Trop délicieuse...
J'Adore...
Miam-Miam ...Turn to your right.
Cross the street.
Cross the street.
Then turn to your left and cross the rue de la Paix.
Walk down about 100 meters or so...
Et Voila!
Et Voila!
Bien sur I showed the photo to French Girl before purchasing.
She nearly had a complete fit on the spot.
"MON DIEU!!!
YOU CAN NOT BUY THESE!
YOU MUST BUY REPETTOS!
J'ADORE REPETTOS!"
J'ADORE REPETTOS!"

Back in the apartment when I told French Girl what I had for lunch, she exclaimed passionately, "J'ADORE LE STEAK-FRITES!!!"Wha'?
Ask any French Girl about ice cream and she will tell you she ADORES Berthillon
There is no ice cream but Berthillon, particularly caramel au beurre salé.
Kyle adores his Tarte Tatin and kept hinting I should order it at chez Georges (so he could eat mine) I did not - I would be tempted to eat it myself, and fall into a sugar coma...c'est la vie
Every French Girl on the planet adores her ELLE magazine, which comes out on Fridays, so she can spend the entire week-end devouring all the trends/tendances and tips and tear out important bits for the coming week.Maybe the trench is always in for Spring? I saw a loads of them floating around...
Bien sur the French adore their Alice (A-Leece)...
Et bien sur Laduree gets a ton of adoration...
An unbeatable combo held in great esteem is Repetto ballerines + Laduree macarons. French Girl could not believe that I would leave behind my Repetto be-ribboned bag and take home just the shoes! "But there are so many things you can do with the bag!" she cried.
Moi, j'adore stalking French pastry...Even more than eating it, which is insane. Maybe the camera acts as a protective barrier. I see tartes and petit fours as abstract colors and shapes. Who knows why, but thanks gawd!
Moi, j'adore les palmiers, but the voices in my head said, "RUN! VITE VITE VITE!" and I did.
Parisiens ADORE New York! It's true.
