No matter what I say about not going back to old favorite places in Paris, Angelina is a must-do.
They've recently renovated and added a much bigger L-shaped patisserie...
A visit is absolutely required + some lingering...
Some of the most beautiful pastries in Paris...
To my eyes...
They seem to be constantly upping their game - elaborate mille-feuilles, the pastry of the month in October....
Macarons flavored ginger-cointreau called the 'Dita' after hot American burlesque queen, Dita Von Teese in Paris...
Angelina came up with the hot-dog-shapped 'macalon' macaron.
Lovely fruity verrines et tartes. And NO ONE shook their finger at me for taking photographs I might add, though I do try to be discrete and would never use flash.
After browsing the patisserie you can stop in Angelina's dining room...
For heavenly chocolat chaud...
And a chestnuty mont blanc.
You can buy take-away/emporte 'cold' hot chocolate in the shop..
Along with Angelina bougies, confiture, guimauve and pate de marron...
Outside a Paris dog patiently looks for a taxi, after drinking too much hot chocolate (some breeds are NOT chocolate-intolerant and I'm coming back as one of those)...
FYI:I've put up some watercolor sketch sheets of Angelina cups I painted this summer at a $pecial price on Etsy.
FYI: You may not have been getting your morning email hit of PB because of a change in Blogger's setup. Everything is fixed now. YAY!
This morning I have to run shoot the New York 2010 Chocolate show - full report tomorrow.
BONJOUR ANGELINA!

So I was telling PB reader Naomi yesterday:
Carolg:Sorry Naomi, but I don't do the People portraits in Paris anymore -too much stress :( but I do paint Paris still lifes and pets.
Naomi:So you mean if we send you a picture of our PARIS breakfast you'll paint that?
Carolg:What a GREAT idea!!
I'd love to!
Custom petit dejeuner still lifes!
Right up my allee Naomi :)
Naomi:It would be a wonderful way to remember my favorite breakfast in Paris!
Do you have stacks and stacks of photos, not to mention memory cards full of favorite petite dejeuners and afternoon teas etc.? Would you love to see them immortalized in a custom watercolor hanging on your wall? Did you have a petit dej' at Les Deux Magots in St. Germain..? Et voila! Did you break the bank for a chocolat chaud...
At Hotel Meurice?
Tea at...
Boulangerie Paul?
Who wants to forget...
Their tea at Mariage Freres?
Champagne for Breakfast, watercolor at Etsy, 9" x 11"
Did you have champagne for breakfast when you're in Paris?
Pourquoi pas?
Check the menu/ardoise...
No messy salade plates svp.
Not sure I know how to paint that...ahem
Bear says: I'm ready!
SVP PAINT my petit dej' at Le Select!!

BONJOUR PETIT DEJ'!!!

I've been sitting here fantasizing working at Angelina for a day... Just for one day. How bad could that be? I know I'd be really terrific in the pastry brigade - Just let me at em! Miam! Lift that tarte citron - tote that tray. But carrying heavy trays laden chocolat chaud up stairs does not appeal to moi...pas de toute!

I think I'd stick to busing if you don't mind... After all, Angelina is a still life painters dream... Utterly dreamy non?
Perhaps I'd carry a little black Moleskine dans ma poche for quickie sketches between trays...
I'd tuck a twisted lemon peel in my pocket to give those still lifes a more Dutchie-look like this Pieter Claesz painting - pourquoi pas?
Angelina treats, watercolor at Etsy, 9" x 11"

Waiting on customers?
Hum...hum...pas si bien pour moi je pense...
I think I'd stick with les Paris doggies...
un peu d'eau mon ange?
After hours, maybe I'd tickle the keys a bit - Coco used to listen to this piano when she'd take a break from creating at Chanel...
Then I'd have a gouter of pate de chestnut - looks a lot like facial cream doesn't it oui?
Quick!
When no one is looking.
I'd grab a bottle of Angelina chocolat for the ride home on the Metro.
Not too shabby wouldn't you say?

Sunday Brunch at Angelinas!
Does it get any better?
The dining room is quite oldie-worldie and very grand...
A few helpful dos and don'ts are in order.
Angelina kindly provides you with a special chair for your gorgeous big FAB bag, so don't just stick it on the floor in the way of guests and waiters.
There is usually reading material on offer in the front.
Evidently reading a table is OK!
Who knew?
Did you know Ralph Lauren is opening a big new boutique on boulevard St. Germain? The French adore Ralph Lauren!
Who knew?
Please do not eat brunch with your coat on your lap and your bags on the floor. Pas bien élevé.
Voila!
Bear inspects the bread and buerre (Renee Richard) and is best pleased.
I have the saumon fume and blinis...
And French Girl has eggs benedict.
The verdict?

Miam..miam
Another "do"- get to Angelina around 10ish and you won't have to wait on line.
Have you noticed Paris is constantly doing reparations/restoration and repairs where ever you look? Here building bricks of mille feuille!
They do it so often, they've become masters at artful cover-ups with lovely signs and imaginative walls, sometimes more interesting than the final redo. J'adore this giant cream puff thing at Angelina. I would love this on my kitchen wall.
There are other options if the line is prohibitively long, like the temporary pastry counter offering loads of goodies for emporter/take-away.
Try their famous chocolat chaud in a paper cup...
Or newly bottled for drinking later...
A mini macaron in Mont Blanc flavor to go with your hot chocolate?
Or the real thing.
French Girl says, "Le Mont Blanc, j'adore!!!!
To quote, Paris Patisseries:History Shops Recipes, "the Mont Blanc was invented by owner Austrian confectioner, Antoine Rumplemeyer. He founded Angelina in 1903 and the recipe has not changed to this day." Don't climb Mont Blanc hoping to find this treat at the peak.
FVI: a Mont Blanc consists of a merinque base, a chantilly filling and a topping of vanilla-flavored piped chestnut cream.

Enjoy your holiday week-end at Angelinas or where ever.
BONJOUR ANGELINA!
