In London I went to see the Diaghilev exhibit at the V&A.
Room after room of sumptuous costumes, stage sets, posters, playbills, videos, background music and backstage tales from the golden age of Les Ballet Russes (1909-1929)...
It's easy to imagine yourself twirling like a czar, sporting a mink hat
Illustrations and costume design drawings from Russian Leon Bakst...
Reflect the lush aspects of these ballets...
Loaded with Russian embroidary...
You can watch old film of Nijinsky's revolutionary Fire Dance.
With the accompanying original costumes and drawings. Plus backstage details of the love affair between Nijinsky and Sergei Diaghilev. Until Les Ballets Russes went off to Argentina, where Nijinsky eloped with a ballerina, causing immediate dismissal from the company. Diaghilev went off on a Bachanalian rage in Sicly...
Stage backdrops and model theaters leave you ready to forage for treasures in the V&A giftshop...
Deck yourself out head to toe...
In Russian garb...
Including Diaghilev's famous black top hat...
While munching faux 'caviar' chocolate beans...
Balletomanes will find plenty of books to buy on their favorite subject...
Why oh why didn't I buy this piano bracelet for all of 5 pounds?
Surprisingly there was no Russian fare to eat in the V&A's cafe, but the fare is excellent English traditional food
With luscious jams up the whazoo at no extra cost!

Bendels choose not to go with The Black Swan for their Xmas window theme...hmmm
Sugar plums and...
The dear old Nutcracker Suite to the rescue.
Very old fashioned and delightful it is too...
Inside white swan-like ballerinas ride ostriches...
Wearing woolen leggings (they were formerly ballerinas of course...)
A ballerina climbs a ladder to turn on the lights...What more could you ask for?
One naughty ballerina takes off her red shoes and goes to bed with the nutcracker...doodly...doodly..do

Is this you pre-holiday...?
Did you do a lot of shopping online like this Bendel girl?
Did you get snowed on while shopping?
712 ways to lead a charmed life...I'll take it!
Nothing wrong with being a Bendel girl...
Some of you must have ventured out and shopped till you dropped. Did you?
And the endless lists...aieeeeeeeeee
There's a good reason New Years Eve rolls around so soon after all that shopping...
Your chance to kick up your heels...Labels: Bendels, Bendels Girl, piggie bank, snow globe
