Jamie Cat Callan wrote me, "I wonder what your thoughts are on red lipstick? Do French girls wear it?"
This is a troublesome query. Certainment you see an awful lot of lipsticks in Paris department stores like Bon Marche, Printemps and Galeries Lafayette...
But do you see any French girls wearing red lipstick/rouge a levres?
I don't. Red shoes? Oui, bien sur!
Le parfume rouge? This is news to me, mais il existe!
Le vetement rouge/red coats? On every street corner!
Le meme chose with all the little red smart cars...
Red stockings in the red Metro? Why not...
Especially if you are going to a bistro and so many bistros are rouge (the red meat?)
Will a French girl sit at a table rouge? Pas de problem.
And write with a red pencil in a red cahier/notebook from the adorable Marie-Papier on rue Vavin? Pourquoi pas?
A gouter/snack of macarons framboise may pass her lips...
Or any Parisien patisserie even a gateaux de rouge...
Pierre Herme Ispahan, watercolor, 9" x 11"

It's one of my favorite paintbox accent...
But on a French girl's lips?
Have you seen it? I haven't..
Jamie responded, "I can't seem to give it up...
perhaps I'll have to go to Lipstick Rehab!"

THANK YOU SO MUCH PB readers !!!!!!
And now, by popular request,
The Older French Girl!
A Sonia look-a-like at the Fall/10 show, decked out completely in Sonia with even Sonia red hair!
Inside the show, another "older" fan...
The older French Girl or OFG can have quite long hair.
It can be white or whatever...
I love this hair salon poster of a fierce older French Girl - an Amazon with minimal airbrushing...
Three OFGs out shopping on rue Saint Honore...
I must *note that the OFG has a distinct propensity for wearing RED...
Lots more red in Paris...
Is wearing RED an act of insurrection as one Frenchie commented?
Are all OFGs anarchists?
Or do they just want to brighten up a bit...
Qui sait?
It certainment is prevalent, no two ways about it!
Here the beau of the older French Girl trails behind carrying her tiny RED Galeries Lafayette bag (like an idiot might I add...ahem)
Sans rouge but they are older Parisiens and tres classe non?
OFG, par excellance, Jacqueline de Ribes was recently awarded the Legion d'Honneur for her many years (80) of contributing to French elegance.
My OFG cousine seconde, Kristine in Pigalle, tout en bleu.
This 80++ can charm anything walking and does it regularly to keep her skills up. We were eating lunch at Rose Bakery. She gets up from the table and goes to chat with complete strangers, usually in their 20's and they are all smiles and giggling in no time!
I wish she'd give me a few lecons...
Voila!
The Older French Girl as requested by PB readers.
Bear has made it known he'd like an all-Paris bear post if you pls., but I haven't decided yet...
BONJOUR OLDER FRENCH GIRLS!

I'm beginning to think just as the French adore their Alice, they also adore le Petite Chaperón Rouge/Little Red Riding Hood.
Why else do you see so many red coats on the streets of Paris?
I would really love to know.
This French Girl is dressed almost head-to-toe in red/rouge.
Les gosse/the kids are dressed in red - the better to see them on the playground non? That's a universal truth.
The French Girl on the far right, like many French grannies, is wearing typically a red coat. I guess if you are French you never grow out of your obsession with Petite Chaperón Rouge.
Here is another grannie, walzing by a red building - there are hundreds in Paris by the way. But that's another post. Frankly I could post all week on Paris Reds - it's that pervasive.
Red is easy to spot in the street. That's how I know there's a lot of it in Paris and next to nil in NYC. I'm thinking of wearing a sandwich board sign on the street, explaining,
"I am just shooting RED today,
so quit the baleful looks SVP"
Sometimes you hit it lucky and get a double dose of red...
This trio of rouge looks lost. Maybe from the provinces since they're all in red....

The French gent on the right, is correctly noticing the pigeons inside Colette's vitrine, while his French femme is remembering the days when she could fit into these dresses...c'est la vie
This French woman, all in red gives baleful looks at a French Girl sans tights with her short shorts. For once I was spared...
French Girl gave me baleful looks every morning, as she dressed for work and I grabbed my camera to shoot it. She's wearing her classic red Marc Jacobs Le manteau redingote.
Now for all your hard work slogging through the Paris red pictures, a treat - gateaux fruit rouges bien sur!
BONJOUR Petite Chaperón Rouge!!

I don't know why it is, but I always see a lot of red in Paris...
Maybe because red pops against all the grey and neutrals in the streets
On the plane I read how Nora Effron said her mother told her never to wear a red coat because she would be remembered as the person with that red coat. Naturally she went out and got one immediately. so I saw red coats everywhere in Paris...
I was seeing red because it was raining heavily...it usually just drizzles in Paris?
Parisien bistros are usually red - for the steak a point/rawish? Qui sait?
Love this sign and I have no idea what it stands for?
parking day & night? Do you know?
I'm seeing a lot of red Maos in book stores - must find out why...
Love this odd afiche seen in the Metro...
I would LOVE to go to this wedding salon!
Of course the RED Metro signs really stand out.
I wish we had them in NYC...
Red scooters...in the rain
Red smart cars -easier to find on the street?
Very pretty certainment.
Galleries Lafayette definitely has the best posters in Paris...
I love how they think outside the box (or the shoe in this case)
A bientot!
BONJOUR PARIS REDS!
