I wish this was my bedroom...
I really wish I was in Bali with Julia...
Riding a bicycle...
Enroute to a date with Javier Bardem - miam, miam
But watching EAT PRAY LOVE in bed is not a bad alternative...
And I can paint onsite here in bed as well!
Jane in New Zealand of Sparrow Chatter kindly sent me her amazing picture of tarts of local cafe La Cloche...
It's on my desktop where I can gaze at it endlessly...
Next project is to paint these lovely tartes - wish me luck.
If I want a taste of Paris (my laptop is on the floor by my bed) I can visit with Inez de la Fressange
Her video jaunts around Paris are good for your accent and a delightful vicarious adventure. Do VISIT!
When your mattress is on the floor, you get a different perspective and long to re-arrange your walls etc. I did move things a bit yesterday :)

THANKS SO MUCH! for all your well wishes and curative suggestions.
I'm making a long to-do list once I'm able to tackle yoga and tai chi etc.
I heard from Rivera, one of the EMT guys at Station:

'Carol, I hope you are doing better than when I first found you! I can tell you first hand when I saw her drawings I was absolutely astounded at how spot on they were! I am sorry I have not gotten around to this sooner, but having you as a patient was absolutely the highlight of my day! One of the best patients I ever had. I actually printed out the sketch and I am trying to show everyone I know at every opportunity! You are extremely talented and I wish you the best. I forget how many readers you told me you have... but add one more in me!'

What an adventure this had turned out to be! I'm off to the Doc shortly to find out what's what with my left leg.

I've been painting teapots today, though not this one, not yet. This teapot was provided when I stayed at the Club in London = love at first sight... It's convenient to have a sink right by your drawing table (really a pull-out writing table in the chest of drawers)... Wherever I go...

Except when staying at French Girls', where I mind my Ps and Qs. There was one catastrophe - the result of a pair of pink underpants, seen here drying on the window knob. They have 'SUPER MODEL' printed on the seat in big silver letters, so they're favorites and previously considered lucky underwear. I hand-washed them as usual. FG has a 6-string clothesline over the tub on which I'd seen sheets, towels, and practiquement Berber rugs hanging. Naturalment I didn't think twice when I tossed them up over the lines. Naturalment the whole thing came crashing down! I tried to untwist and replace it, but one string was irrevocably broken. The pants went onto the radiator to dry. When FG came home I was sitting as usual at the computer quietly tapping away. First words I hear,

"What happened in the bathroom?"

Not so lucky after all.

Bear and Squeak, the cat, hold a truce session in my studio-bedsit...

I would have loved to paint this mess on top of the desk...

Pencil thumbnail for Green teapot watercolor...

Green teapot in London, watercolor, 9" x 11"

Tarte Citron in Paris, watercolor, 9" x 11"

Hediard tea in Paris, watercolor, 9" x 11"

Has anyone has painted at the breakfast table at the Club..? This hallway sign should have been on my door.
I tipped the cleaner, Manuel extra not to clean up my mess.

Eton Mess

In London I spent time messing around with teapots and boxes ...
And I browsed more in supermarkets than museums...The names of the products are so enticing. Were they created with me in mind? An Eton Mess is an English dessert I felt an instant affinity to, being a master of mess-making myself...ahem Tom the cat could expound on the subject at length. Here he steps none too gingerly onto my 'work table'/bed.
Tom Squeak does an inspection of the Gillott mess...

In disgust, Tom Squeak gazes out the window for some relief from the chaos...
A natural still life waiting...
Finally Tom Squeak chastises me,
"Why R U SUCH a mess?!"
Ultimately he gives up and goes to sleep as any smart cat would...
Making watercolor 'messes' in London and Paris is a good way to warm up so to speak...
I even made a mess on AirFrance with all my drawing stuff laid out on two seats. Who knew so many AF flight attendants were once former artistes?
Doing warmups can be fun - except when you thought they weren't going to be just a 'warm-up'...
Enfin, not a warm-up, but an Angelina I'm happy with!
Back home the mess continues minus Tom the cat...
I wonder if Tom Squeak makes house calls?
Here's what I'm listening to whilst I get messy...

It's been a long time since I've been to London, maybe 6-7 years. I've completely forgotten what 2 do there and I have 10 days.
Help me PB readers svp.
Naturalment I'll visit the Laduree branch at Harrod's for macaron researche. Do you have any not-2-B-missed London macaron destinations?
Do tell.

I know there's a PAUL'S in London, but I'll skip it unless you say I shouldn't. Carrie, your painting is going out today
I will absolutely visit the Grace Kelley exhibit at the V&A!
I'm toying with the idea of tea at The Ritz...hmmm
Definitely I'll visit Ottolenghi take-out, like every day if I can...
According to Google Maps it's a 32 minute walk from...
The Chelsea Arts Club, where I'm staying.
And where I'll be exhibiting the Paris Facade watercolors!
You're all invited to the 'Private View' on Tuesday June 8th 6-8
143 Old Church St. Chelsea SW3

Well 40 of you are.
Please email me if you'd like to attend.
If you show up the day after moaning "I missed it" they will not let you in unless I'm there. It's a private club...ahem
There will be Laduree macarons bien sur.

This is the typical heart attack English breakfast you get at the club minus the baked beans. Fried potatoes, fried tomatoes, fried mushrooms, fried eggs, piles of rashers of bacon, sausage. They should have a doctor on the premises. Granted I've only seen besotted diners fall into their soup.

I'll be visiting with Ian Sidaway, watercolorist par excellence. I was an 'artist resident' at a Tuscan workshop he taught. Ian has written like 800 superb artbooks and he's going to let me use his studio to cut mounts/mats.

Ian recently sent me this photo from our painting adventure. I've made a mess, comme d'habitude in the Tuscany landscape just like in my studio. So PLEASE tell me what 2 do in London besides the above list.
And do come to the opening if you can.
BONJOUR LONDON!
