I'm soooo late telling you about Karen Karbo's terrific book, so here's a crash course.

I've never really longed to own a Chanel jacket until last summer, when I saw the Michael Jackson video where he sports this utterly simple, sparkly Chanelesque jacket at his 1983 first Moonwalk performance = it was instant love. I found out he borrowed it from his mom's closet the night before!

On Saturday I escaped a play with far too much shouting and ran into the arms of lush, period bio-pic, Coco Before Chanel...quelle relief!

The film charts the rise of an ambitious, difficult woman as she made her way finally to Paris and became the icon we all know. I only wish Tautou had been as tough and fierce as I imagined Chanel to be. But the film is so beautifully shot and executed - I recommend it highly.

In the last scene Coco is sitting on her famous mirrored stairway (so she could easily see at a glance what was going on in all the floors of her couture house!) waiting for the show to begin. I hope there will be a sequel.
Last Spring I heard famed photographer, Douglas Kirkland speak on his time shooting and shadowing Chanel for 3 weeks when he was a young man for Look Magazine.

The best tidbit? In those 21 days, Kirkland never once saw Chanel remove her hat.

Suite #302 - 3 rooms overlooking Place Vendome, were home to Mademoiselle (as she was always called), for 37 years from 1934 until her death in 1971 at age 89. The Ritz has lovingly restored with assistance from Karl Lagerfeld every small detail...A Vogue video tour of Mademoiselle's apartment...

I stopped by Merisi's Vienna late last night and thought Ah Ha! There is my post for tomorrow!
Merisi has shown the Chanel windows on Kohlmarkt 5 in Vienna.
As has Paris Parfait on rue Cambon in Paris of course.
I thought I'll show Chanel on 57th Street in New York!

I had BIG plans to be out in front of the windows at 8 AM!The best laid plans of mice and men are paved with good intentions on the route to Hell...

I had a haircut like this as a kid and stick straight hair.
Something happened along the way and the sticks are wavy now...
The scarlet lips are fun too...
Ruching and pleats on white chiffon shirts...so Chanel!
As are chains and chains of pearls and logo whatnots...
This L.L.Bean-style boot kicking the pearls around is a bit of shocker!Is there a Chanel store in your town?
