When I was hanging my exhibit at the Boston French Library with galerie directrice Noémie...
I had to get under the ladder MANY times to hold the measuring tape straight, while Noémie placed the pictures. This was an anathema to me. I am deeply superstitious from childhood and I have my father to thank for this.I would sooner walk into oncoming traffic than walk under a ladder in the street.
Quite a few of you have suggested I visit Le Pere Lachaise. Wha'? Are you kidding me?
My father instructed us anytime we passed a cemetery, a funeral or a hearse we must all, figuratively so to speak, spit 3 times.
And I do it to this day.
If my dad saw a black cat crossing the road in front of him...
He would turn the car around. No questions asked.
Whenever the family went off on a trip...In fact we've already left.
I never go to Paris or anywhere without repeating this. Once I tried to explain to a French woman in Provence that we could not go to Cezanne's Mont Sainte Victoire without saying the travel incantation. I tried desperately to translate - I'm sure you can improve upon this.
But there are inconsistencies...ahemVery superstitious,
Writing's on the wall,
Very superstitious,
Ladders bout' to fall,
Thirteen month old baby,
Broke the lookin' glass
Seven years of bad luck,
The good things in your past
When you believe in things
That you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain't the way
BONJOUR SUPERSTITION!

Not Parisien, but from Demel, though surely very Parisien in style non?
I have yet to see any Parisien carry around a cat in a bag on the Metro or cats at Laduree. Plenty of dogs but no cats!
This cat tea pot was in the window of what else? A Paris chocolate shop, Debauve & Gallais, perhaps the oldest chocolate shop in Paris.
A real Parisien chat, sitting outside guarding a shop at the Place du Palais-Royal - a guard cat.
These elegant cats and dogs sit in Laduree's windows. Langues de chat(cat's tongue bisquits) for the cats. What's in the "French" Bulldog box?
And exactly the right bag to carry them in!
A chocolate "Egyptian" cat at the Paris Salon du Chocolat...
More chocolate cats at the show. Is that a white whale with a volley ball attached?! Anyone have a clue what these cats are up to?
Lastly you have to include un souris (a mouse) from the Salon. Wait this is a famous fat cat created by Belgian artist, Philippe Geluck in collaboration with Chocolat Galler.
BONJOUR LES CHATS PARISIEN!
