HM LANVIN

HM Lanvin I thought I was 'READY' for the HM Lanvin sale on Saturday....
HM Lanvin I was NOT!
I arrived rather leisurely at 8:15 AM.
This sale was nothing like the Sonia sale.
HM Lanvin I had not read the fine print nor seen the flyers nor carefully checked the HM website. Here's the deal: the 1st 320 people to show up get timed different colored bracelets (see above) with a specific time slot when they can shop. Twenty people at a time get to shop for 15 minutes is the deal.
HM Lanvin People started lining up at midnight the night before!
We were lucky to even get a colored bracelet at all!
Eeek who knew?
HM Lanvin And to think I was worried about not getting my morning walkies in. I raced around to 4 different H&Ms to check out the situation. Thank you PBers for making me get my daily exercize in! If I didn't have to report in I probably would have stayed in bed and missed all the excitement.
Quelle zoo!
HM Lanvin Actually it was well organized and thought out.
Only TWO garments of each style were allowed to be purchased.
HM Lanvin How come the staff always get to wear the best T-shirts?
I offered to buy the shirt off his back but he said,
"Come back after 3 PM."
HM Lanvin Here's a lucky ducky with all his goodies (Oh jealousie!) who must have arrived at the crack of dawn...
HM Lanvin I went into Prete a manger for a coffee to kill time until my time slot of 12:20(!) I chatted with Brit sisters Jean and Dorothy, visiting New York for 4 days, so I drew them a little map of NYC-not-to-be-missed highpoints on a napkin :)
HM Lanvin Finally my chance to grab some Lanvin came!
HM Lanvin The adorable glasses I'd dreamed of owning were gone the first 2 minutes after opening I heard tell. Wouldn't it be spectacular if all of New York was walking around wearing Alber Elbaz nerdie glasses? What were you thinking Lanvin putting out so few pairs...sob...sob
HM Lanvin I passed on this bracelet but did find a Lanvin lipstick, not even mentioned...
Ah the beloved glasses/lunettes again....sniff
HM Lanvin I walked away with quite adorable T-shirts ($39.95) with a bow/noeud attached.
HM Lanvin A shopper asks last minute advice from the sales girl...
"Should I or shouldn't I?"
HM Lanvin The shopping bags alone were worth the trouble. And they did have tres charmant cotton bags with Elbaz drawings scrawled on them for a mere $3.95 donated to Unesco - I got a few as gifts etc.
HM Lanvin So not a bad haul all in all, though I am still pinning for those AE glasses. Will trade a painting or just about anything for THOSE lunettes!!!
BONJOUR H&M LANVIN!!!

Metropolitan's new exhibit of Haremhab Has this happened to you?
You go to the museum (in this case yesterday at the Metropolitan's new exhibit of Haremhab, the Egyptian general who became king) and all you notice is the elegant flat tums!
All you can think is, Oh why did you wolf down those divine chausson aux pommes in Paris?
A tough contest -
Between an elegant flat tum or an elegant chausson aux pommes...
Fortunately the first time you went to Des Gateaux et du Pain they were ferme! It was a mardi bien sur...
The flat tum won out that time...
All you got was a sneak peek into the open cuisine doorway...
Metropolitan's new exhibit of HaremhabMiam?
Or miam-miam? A second visit was more successful...
Les viennoiseries d'or at Des Gateaux are pretty darn irresistable...
And the interiors...
Are so darn elegant...
An Egyptian from Haremhab's time could easily have designed it...
I'd planned on tasting the prize-winning chausson aux pommes (according to Le Figaro) but the chausson aux agrumes (Pâte feuilletée au beurre frais et sel de guérande caramélisée, crème au jus et zeste de citron et pamplemousse) made my heart beat...
So fast I couldn't hold the camera still
munch munch
miam-miam
Was it worth it?
If it meant not looking as svelt and nubile as these Egyptian beauties?
Particularly with the HM Lanvin collection opening this Saturday!?
Oh why did I give in to temptation?
What would YOU have done?
Again at the Met another uncanny likeness of designer Alber Elbaz
Asking me, where was your restraint?
How will you fit into my gowns this Saturday?!

God only knows...
Des Gateaux et du Pain There are so many museums to visit-don't miss this one in Paris by going on a Tuesday. Mais faites attention!
They have FOUR video screens hidden by the cash register to catch undercover pastry sleuths. They let me off this time...

BONJOUR HM/LANVIN + MET/Haremhab + Des Gateaux & du Pain!

Photo by Garance DorePhoto by Grance Dore
While Sunday surfing I came across this arresting photo by Garance Dore of Lanvin's Spring 2011 collection...
Yesterday I went to a press preview of the Jan Gossart exhibit at the Met - can you see where this is headed?
LANVIN Lanvin's fabulous flowie drapery...
Has Alber Elbaz been looking at Neatherlandish painting?
LANVIN Or is it just me that sees...
These complex draperies...
Repeated in these paintings of Jan Gossart?
LANVIN Scrunched...
Red pigment was such a rare commodity for artists back in the 13-14th century - vermilion or cinnabar was usually reserved for the most exquisite of painted subjects like the virgin. But here the artiste has deemed himself worthy of the finest. Is that why I see RED everywhere?
LANVIN Of course Lanvin loves black too...
As does this Met preview observer draped in noir...
LANVIN Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz would make a worthy portrait subject for 13th century Jan Gossart don't you think?
LANVIN
Can't you envision the couture sketches pinned to the wall behind his head and fabric swatches/colored threads on his work table..?
LANVIN Bien sur only a 21st century designer could dream up these fantastical shoes-who knows if they bothered with shoes under all that drapery?
opens tomorrow at the Metropolitan Museum - a spendid exhibit.
Back in New York a boy braves the cold with not much drapery at all. He better cover up - it's 54 degrees out there.
BONJOUR LANVIN/JAN GOSSART!
