Should one decide to play golf, the essential thing that a person needs is a set of golf clubs. Most people who are not sure whether to invest more in the game prefer to borrow a set provided by the club or buy a used one. A person can acquire a second hand set from a golf specialty store or buy it from a professional golfer who may want to sell the used set to buy a new one.
When that person feels that one is ready to get serious with the sport, the individual may now decide to buy a brand new one. Here are some tips one should know when learning how to play golf and choosing a set of clubs:
1. There are many brands of golf clubs available. Before buying one, it is best to feel the grip of each so one can choose the right set that the person will be comfortable with while playing in the green.
2. Shafts come in different lengths which are determined by the height of the person. If one is unsure of which is the correct one for the individual, it is best to ask the assistance of the salesperson.
3. A little knowledge of the various clubs will help a person in choosing one even if these are usually sold in sets. A typical set of irons that a person can buy are numbered from 3 to 9 and includes a pitching wedge.
4. Another thing a person needs to play golf is a putter. Just like choosing the right set, the person should feel the grip and how comfortable it is from the brands available in the specialty store before buying it.
5. Errant shots are some things that can't be helped, especially in the sport of golf. This is the reason why the person should be familiar with the various club designs since some clubs have made restrictions on this.
Bladed clubs are the most recommended for golfers since it gives better precision in every shot that takes skilled hands to accomplish.
6. To maintain the golf clubs, it is best to use a wire brush or a small towel to keep these in good condition.
7. A person needs golf balls to putt into the hole. If one is just getting into the game, it is advisable to buy a cheap set of balls first rather than an expensive one since some shots might fall into the water or in the forest that will just get lost which is just like throwing money into the air.

The game of golf is truly an individual sport. The basics are the same for everyone; however, due to the differences in people's body types no two people will ever have the same golf swing. Each person will have to adapt their bodies to perform a proper golf swing in their own way. Taking the time to develop your own method of playing golf will greatly improve your enjoyment and success at the game. Practicing the basic fundamentals of the game until they are ingrained in your muscles will lead to confidence on the course, and that confidence will lead to success and enjoyment of the game.
One of the most basic steps that you can put into action and see an immediate improvement to your golf swing is to keep your head still and look straight at the ball. The position of your head should be straight in line with your spine, and your nose should be raised up a bit so that when you start to swing, your left shoulder fits under your chin. Many players tuck their heads into their chests to try and keep their heads still and look straight down at the golf ball. Unfortunately, they cannot perform a proper golf swing while in this position.
If you are one of the many that are having difficulty keeping your head straight and an eye on the ball try the following. The next time you approach the ball, assume the correct stance with your feet and knees in position but keep your head and back straight, bend forward slightly at the waist and look straight at the ball. If you try and take a swing in this position, your left shoulder will most likely hit your chin. While keeping your eyes on the ball, raise your head slowly until your left shoulder does not hit your chin. Make sure that your head does not move from side to side by keeping your eyes fixed on the ball. Slowly go through the backswing and downswing portions of your golf swing. Do not hit the ball and do the follow through. Practice this portion of your golf swing focusing on keeping your head straight and eyes on the ball.
Practice this exercise in your backyard for about 25 times in a row and then take a break and relax a bit, then start again. Make minor corrections to your head and body position as needed to keep your eyes straight on the ball and your left shoulder from hitting your chin. This exercise will "train" your body, and your muscles will "remember" the correct position you need to be in to perform the movement correctly. Think about any sports athlete, they train and train to place their bodies in the correct stance and position to properly execute the movements necessary to be successful in their particular sport. You are doing the same thing by "training" your body to keep your head straight and position itself so that you can successfully execute a proper golf swing
Another basic step that can work greatly towards improving your golf swing is to relax. I know it is easier said then done, especially when you are getting ready to put all your power into drive with an audience of either your co-workers, or better still your friends who will not let you forget it if you mess up. However, relaxing your muscles will help you to maintain the proper balance that is important to a great golf swing. Regardless of the golf clubs you use, your balance is the primary foundation of your golf swing, and the way to achieve good balance is to practice. A good way to practice improving your balance is to assume the address position with your club, relax your body and try holding it there for about 30 seconds. Does it feel like you have more weight on one foot or the other? Is one part of your body more tense then another?
Keeping your head straight and maintaining good balance are just two basic parts of a great golf swing. The exercises given above are just two ways that you can start training now to improve your golf swing. You can work on either one separately, or combine them together into one exercise. Improving your golf swing begins and ends with you. Training the muscles of your body to properly perform specific movements takes time and practice. The effort spent improving your golf swing will pay off on the course. Through exercise and practice, you will be able to slip into the proper address position and perform an effortless, powerful golf swing and feel just as if you were sliding your hand into a warm soft glove.

Tiger Woods golf swing is one that creates a lot of power and sometimes gets him into trouble. Without a doubt…being the number one golfer in the world, his Tigers golf swing is pretty good wouldn't you say?
What is the KEY to achieving a similar swing to Tigers?
There is a couple of things right off the top that any golfer no matter age or ability can accomplish given a little bit of "off the course" training on your body!
Rotate with your body.
Tiger does this with the strength of his core. By developing a stronger core from a rotational standpoint, you will add many yards to your drives. A term for this is "staying-connected" throughout the golf swing.
Tiger always fights his lower body getting way ahead of his upper body during the downswing (getting "stuck"), so he tries to keep his arms and club in front of his chest for as long as he can. This promotes a better sequence for the downswing, which puts him at impact in a very powerful position.
There are many drills you can do to achieve this body rotation. Sticking a towel under both armpits while you swing a wedge is one way. If the towel drops, your arms have become disconnected from your body.
Swing through to a full finish.
You'll notice on most of Tigers shots he is fully rotated in the finish position. Only when he is hitting a punch or knock-down shot does he not have a full finish. This is an indicator Tiger is swinging through the ball, not just hitting at it.
When you focus on swinging through the ball, you'll find your distance will increase, as well as your fairways hit off the tee. For most of us amateurs, the "hit" instinct is something we fight all the time.
It's so easy to say we all can't have Tiger Woods golf swing and that is partly true. But applying the above two movements to your swing will do wonders.
The only thing left is working on your body "off the course".
Golf is no longer viewed as just a leisure game. It is an athletic movement that demands a higher level of conditioning specific to golf if you want to play your best!
So don't try to copy it, but think about the common parts you can do…and you'll at least look like you have Tiger Woods golf swing!

There are many rules to the game of golf that are not enforced by penalties. These rules are that of etiquette and respect for other golfers. They are mainly in place for safety and fairness. The game is only part decision and skill. The key to having the best golf experience begins with the correct etiquette. There is nothing that ruins a game of golf like being embarrassed by not knowing the rules. There are some simple rules to follow that will ensure you look professional the whole time you are on the course.
First off, you always look smart by stretching before the first hole. Every athlete knows that he needs to warm up. The best way to start is to take advantage of the practice green that is usually located near the clubhouse. This green consists of about 6 to 8 holes that you can putt to. If you feel confident enough, you can use your 9 iron or pitching wedge at the practice green to warm up your chipping capability.
When teeing off, it is always best to have the most accomplished player tee off first. This will set the pace for the game so that everyone else can move up the course towards the green. If partners that are sharing a cart hit to opposite sides of the fairway, they can either change partners to adapt to their hitting styles or drop their partner off at their ball and drive to their ball. This saves time so that parties behind don't have to wait longer. It is also appropriate to take a few clubs with you anytime that you are dropped off. This allows for multiple hits in case you do not get back to the cart. The furthest person from the ball should always be the one to hit and any cart should not move ahead of this player's ball. In case that your ball should land in heavy grass, take a quick scan to find your ball. The limit to find a ball is 5 minutes and should only be exercised if you let a waiting party play through. Any divots that are made should be replaced by the missing grass and or some sand from the bucket on the cart.
When reaching the green, the pin should remain until all people have also gotten on the green. The furthest from the hole putts until he is not the furthest, and any ball that is potentially in the putter's path should be replaced with a marker. It is also considered rude to walk in the path of another golfer's putt because it may alter the path of the putt. You should also be aware of your shadow while another golfer is putting. Make sure that you shadow does not fall in the path of a putt because it is distracting.
Following these simple rules is an easy way to make certain that you do not look foolish on the golf course. Golf is a common form of business meeting that can be disastrous if you do not follow the common rules. Skill is not as important as etiquette in a sport like golf. Practice manners just as you would skill and you will exude the presence of a true professional.
