BAUCHI State governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, on Sunday, used the occasion of his second inauguration as governor for another four-year term to offer N2 million to each of the families
of the 10 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, who were killed by suspected political thugs during the post-presidential election in different parts of the state.
Yuguda, who spoke during his swearing-in ceremony and that of his deputy, Sagir Aminu Saleh, held at the IBB Square, Bauchi, expressed the state government’s deep concern for the departed corps members and also offered three Hajj/Jerusalem seats each to each family, as well as free scholarship for two of their younger siblings from secondary school to the university level in any Nigerian university.
Yuguda, at the low-keyed ceremony, as a mark of honour to the 10 slain corps members and six others who were butchered in the post-presidential poll violence, ”by killers suspected to be agents of opposition political parties,” disclosed that the ‘’security agencies have arrested over 600 perpetrators of this dastardly act, including the suspected killers of the corps members and other citizens of the state.”
The governor, who was sworn in by the state Chief Judge, Justice Ibrahim Zango, at a colorful ceremony attended by a mammoth crowd of well wishers, also approved the creation of the Sayawa Chiefdom with temporary headquarters at Marten Giji, to ensure lasting peace in the troubled Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa local government areas of the state.
He then called on all stakeholders ‘’to support this position and accord necessary cooperation to the new chief, when he is eventually installed even, as government has appointed a high-powered committee to review previous reports on the Tafawa Balewa/Bogoro crisis, which included Justice Babalakin, Justice Bala Umar and Justice Ibrahim Zango’s committees.”
Yuguda then told the people of the state that he would use his second term in office to continue to execute policies, programmes and projects that have direct bearing on the living conditions of the citizenry, adding that government intended to create avenues that would generate employment opportunities for the teeming youth in the state.
According to him, “we will continue to employ the use of contact, compromise and consensus building in our dialogue with our various communities before embarking on projects so that it will be demand driven and for the people’s benefit.”
He added that, “we shall run an open and accountable administration and equally maintain an open-door policy in all we do. This administration intends to break the existing barrier between it and the common people and plan to have frequent interactions with various communities throughout the 20 local government areas of the state.”
